Tailoring & Implementation

Noblestar has extensive experience in tailoring and implementing an iterative SDLC via RUP or an Agile solution through OpenUP from individual projects to organizations. We focus on right-sizing the implementation to meet the needs of the organization and also define how to utilize process frameworks in an adaptive fashion. We accomplish this by applying our standardized approach we refer to as the Gears of Process™. Our clients have achieved the best results for tailoring and rolling out these process methodologies by using a practice-oriented approach coupled with industry best practices around process improvement.

All of our Process Tailoring & Implementation services can be coupled with our services for Process Assessment, Roadmapping, Enablement, Process Enactment, and IT Governance & Metrics Implementation.

Service Offerings

We leverage our expertise and knowledge in providing the following services around process tailoring and implementation:

Implement a Unified Application Lifecycle Management Process

From cradle to grave of an application, our suites of consulting services are oriented around the full Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) cycle. We work with you in unifying your demand management (the cradle) with that of the application lifecycle through initial implementation, enhancement, maintenance, and eventual retirement in production (the grave). We refer to this full lifecycle as the Unified Application Lifecycle Management process or UALM for short. We leverage our expertise in implementing process, project and portfolio demand management, application lifecycle (RUP, OpenUP, etc), and ITIL operations to define a right-sized solution for your organization.

We have discovered that a practice oriented approach is ideal for UALM where the process areas of the UALM are implemented in bite-sized practices; a practice being an end-to-end activity with a discrete beginning and ending. For example, most disciplines, such as requirements management, are composed of a handful of practices. Driven by a roadmap, we have found that clients realize measurable results sooner rather than later with practices. The implementation of practices limits the scope of organizational change. Where an end-to-end lifecycle may take 6 months, a year, or even more, a practice can be defined, piloted, and delivered in 6 to 10 weeks.

Along the lines of the UALM, we can provide specific tailoring and implementation of disciplines and their relevant practices.

Tailor and Implement Iterative & Agile SDLC Lifecycles

We have extensive experience in tailoring and implementing an iterative or agile SDLC Methodology from individual projects to organizations. We focus on right-sizing the implementation to meet the needs of the organization and also define how to utilize these process frameworks in an adaptive fashion. Our clients have achieved the best results for tailoring and rolling out RUP by using a practice- oriented approach.

Tailor and Implement Specific UALM Disciplines

Regardless if you are doing Iterative, Agile, or even Waterfall, standardizing the SDLC disciplines can add tremendous value to an organization. Focusing on a given discipline versus the entire lifecycle has many benefits:

  • Return value to your organization sooner vs. later in comparison to an end-to-end approach.
  • Achieve measurable results as discipline related work is completed vs. waiting till the end of multiple projects a year or more down the road.
  • Enable an organization to address specific process needs in a focused manner.
  • Minimize the impact of process change and thus limit the impact of reduced productivity typical of large-order process roll-out.
  • Integrate and introduce IT governance in waves vs. a big bang approach.
  • Enable an organization to achieve specific CMMi goals by focusing on disciplines related to CMMi defined Process Areas (PA’s).

We recommend performing this work in bite-sized practices to enable even quicker and rapid deployment of the discipline, where a given discipline is broken down into practices and rolled out in swift 4 - 6 week iterations.

Our capability extends across the entire spectrum of UALM disciplines but with specialization in the following areas:

  • Application & Project Portfolio Management
  • Change Control & Build Management
  • Data Lifecycle Management
  • Requirements Definition & Management
  • Software Architecture & Design

Tailor and Implement ITIL

We have worked with clients to tailor and implement the IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) in a tool agnostic manner, with or without ITUP as the baseline process. Not only do we support the customization of ITUP to meet the client's ITIL needs, but we also work with the client to automate ITIL with their tool suite of choice.

IBM Rational Method Composer (RMC) Support Services

Noblestar has extensive experience and knowledge of RMC with industry experts in the usage of the tool. Our services include:

  • RMC Workshops
  • RMC Mentoring Services
  • RMC Expert Support Services
  • RMC Usage Proof of Concept

Integrate IBM's Rational Unified Process (RUP) and ITIL

We have supported clients in the integration of RUP and ITIL by leveraging our expertise in both methodologies. This may be performed with or without RMC. With RMC, we can offer expertise in providing process engineering for linking your organization's usage of RUP and ITIL via IBM's Tivoli Unified Process.
